What Happened To Ted Bundy And What Influenced Him?

I recently watched “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile” with Zac Efron and Lily Collins and they both did an excellent job acting. I was hooked to the story and had to watch the Netflix documentary series, “Conversations With A Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes,” parting from the movie to learn more about what happened to Ted Bundy.

In case you don’t know, the movie is based on the true story of Ted Bundy, the notorious, American serial killer. I personally have heard mentions of him in my past, but never looked into his story. After watching that film though, I was curious of the true character of Ted Bundy and what influenced his behaviour.

Ted Bundy was this intelligent, handsome man that engaged in a sudden splurge of killings from the age of 28. It appears that he never purposefully engaged in anything remotely as violent before and seemed to have no trouble attracting women with his charming personality. Why he hunted, brutally beat, and practiced necrophilia with young women is tough to figure out.

In the confession tapes shared in his documentary series, Bundy argued pornography and bondage were far too influential in hurting women and claimed other death row inmates felt the same. Another man in the documentary counterargued that Bundy was looking for something to blame as the man stated pornography is a common addiction while serial killing is not.

Since the pleasures of bondage is somewhat of a foreign concept to me, I wondered if there really could be a connection. Bundy stated that he had a privileged childhood and was cared for, being raised in a Christian household. By the time he began his murders, he was a law student. If not an addiction to pornography and bondage, what else could’ve triggered his violent behaviour? Bundy did mention that he had a lack of empathy and couldn’t feel certain emotions like guilt. He found that guilt was a way of controlling people. Carelessness could’ve been a trigger.

There has been a widespread speculation that Bundy had an abusive maternal grandfather he lived with for the first few years of his life and has been bullied in school. I personally don’t find this information accountable since Bundy never admitted to them when he could’ve. In my opinion, beatings from a grandfather and bullying are traumatic experiences someone of his intellect would leverage to explain his demonic behaviour as opposed to pornography addiction.

What Happened To Ted Bundy Is Confusing.

I think what confuses me most about Bundy’s story is his intelligence. He was smart enough to know the results of his actions and though he obviously used that to his advantage to get away with murders for years, he seemed to have an understanding of ethics. His belief in Jesus Christ is reportedly what prevented him from committing suicide the day before his electrocution date. He debated on doing so to have control of his death but was convinced that would be morally wrong. So my question again is why? Why would a man so smart and devoted to a religion promoting respectful behaviour decide to commit such horrendous murders?

I probably will never understand the mind of a serial killer and be able to identify a pattern describing who would become one because of people like Ted Bundy. He did not appear peculiar to the crowd. What happened to Bundy is really disappointing and confusing. Though there’s no confirmed way to tell who would become a serial killer to prevent murder cases, it is amazing how the law enforcement can solve so many cases and get murderers in prison like Bundy.

I hope this blog helps you realize how tough cases can be for the law enforcement. They deserve much respect and praise for keeping our communities the safest to their abilities. Thank you for reading my thoughts on the case and be sure to share your thoughts too in the comments!
